The name Jasper is derived from a Greek word meaning spotted stone. There are many types of Jasper with a wide variety of colours and patterns, Brecciated Jasper is red with white streaks.

Geological Description

Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 6.5 to 7. At some stage during it’s formation Red Jasper was broken and Quartz filled in the cracks creating the white streaks seen in the stone. It is found all over the world, including large deposits in India, Russia, Brazil, France, Germany and the USA.
