Cats Eye History and Uses
The name Cats Eye refers to the the way the stone reflects light, called chatoyancy it is due to inclusions of slender parallel mineral fibres. Many types of stones display this chatoyancy but it is only the Chrysoberyl named Cymophane which can be called Cats Eye. It ranges in colour from colourless to pink, yellow and green. These gemstones became popular in the 19th century when the Duke of Connaught gave one to his fiancee as an engagement gift. It has been traditionally used to protect the wearer from negativity, to attract wealth and as a fortifying stone. It was also believed to make its carrier invisible and worn as an amulet to guard against infidelity.
