Chrysoprase Crystal Healing Properties

Chrysoprase is believed to be a heart healing stone. It may help us understand patterns and habits in relationships, and to release fear based emotions and belief systems.

In addition, it is felt to be a prosperity and love attracting stone, opening our hearts to receive the infinite love and abundance of the Universe and expanding our ability to feel and express love. Furthermore, it may assist us to feel our interconnection with all of creation.

History and Uses

Chrysoprase, also called chrysophrase, chrysoprasus or the stone of Venus, is named from the Greek ‘chrusos’ meaning gold and ‘prason’ meaning leek in reference to its colour. It has been known since ancient times and was a favourite stone of Alexander the Great. He attributed his success in battles to the Chrysoprase beaded girdle he wore.

Similarly, the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians used it to make seals, signets, jewellery and other ornamental objects because of its beautiful apple green colour.

In Medieval Europe, it was worn to attract money and ward off nightmares. Legend has it that thieves would use Chrysoprase to make themselves invisible.

Geological Description

Chrysoprase is a rare form of green chalcedony, a member of the quartz group with a hardness of 7. This stone’s green colour is due to it’s nickel content. Chrysoprase is found in Australia, Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa and Russia.
