Hiddenite was first discovered in North Carolina, USA, in the late 19th century and was named after William Earl Hidden, the mineralogist who first identified it. It is a relatively rare variety of spodumene, a mineral that is also found in other colours, such as kunzite (pink) and spodumene (green).
Geological Description
Hiddenite is a lithium aluminum silicate mineral with a monoclinic crystal system. It typically forms in prismatic crystals and is often found in association with other lithium-rich minerals, such as lepidolite and kunzite. Its green colour is due to the presence of chromium and vanadium.
