Malachite Crystal Healing Properties

The energy of Malachite strengthens our ability to take action in the world. As such, it helps us to create and manifest form from our thoughts and ideas. Also, it can help us find the resolve to overcome difficulty and the integrity to stay true to our direction. Similarly, it is a powerful protection stone that reveals energetic and emotional boundaries and helps us to honour those boundaries in ourselves and others. Traditionally, it has been used to help in the treatment of torn muscles, swollen joints and arthritis. Similarly, Indian Ayurvedic medicine, it is believed to treat kidney disorders. Lastly, this crystal is believed to help bring restful sleep by creating a sense of calm and peace.

History and Uses

The origins of the name Malachite may come from one of three Greek words. Firstly, mallow is a type of herb, secondly, malhe meaning grass; either of these could refer to the green colour of the stone or thirdly, malakos meaning soft. This green crystal was popular in the Ancient World. Egyptians mined it for copper ore and used it for jewellery as early as 4000BC. It is said that the Greeks and Romans powdered the stone to make eye shadow. Also, in the Middle Ages it was believed to protect against the evil eye and sorcery. Moreover, a large deposit in the Ural Mountains was mined by the Russian Czars to make ornaments and to line the walls of their palaces.

Geological Description

This crystal is a copper carbonate mineral with a hardness of 3.5 to 4. It can often form with Azurite and Chrysocolla. It is found in Zaire, Australia, Chile, South Africa and the USA.

Jewellery Warranty & Care

When crafted into jewellery, some crystals are more hardy than others.

For everyday wearers, we recommend crystals that fall in the Quartz family or have a Moh's hardness level of over 5.5-6.

Avoid excessive water exposure, especially in pools or the ocean and any harsh chemicals.

Delicate crystals like Amber, Moonstone, Opal, and iron-based meteorites need gentle handling due to potential discolouration or structural risks. These are best as occasion pieces.

Store safely, and clean with care.

Rest assured that our 1-year jewellery warranty covers any manufacturing defects.

With proper care, we expect your pieces to last many years to come.

In our 18 years of business, we still wear some treasures from our original collection! Learn more about our warranty and care guide here.
