Copper is thought to carry the receptive energies of the wise Grandmother Earth, teaching us to walk in balance with nature. As a conductor of energy, when used with earthly crystals, it is believed to intensify, enhance and channel their properties. It is believed to assist the body with repairing tissues, oxygenating the blood, strengthening the female reproductive system and increasing vitality.
In Greece, Copper was known by the name chalkos. Similarly, in Roman times, it was known as Cyprium, named after Cyprus, where much of the copper was mined. It was then simplified to the Latin cuprum and in English copper. In ancient times, it was polished to make mirrors and was associated with the goddess of Love, Aphrodite and the planet Venus. Copper lumps were used as money by the Romans in the 6th through to 3rd centuries BC. Native copper has been used since 9000 BC in the Middle East. A copper pendant was found in northern Iraq that dates to 8700 BC. Copper smelting was most likely invented independently, in several different places, at different times throughout history. In ancient India, it was used as surgical instruments, and Egyptians used it to purify water and sterilise wounds. In addition, it was used in China, the UK and in North & South America, to make burial ornaments. Copper compounds are commonly found as copper salts. These give blue or green colours to minerals such as Azurite and Turquoise. As such, historically, they have been widely used as pigments. In modern times, because of its conductivity - both electrical and thermal - it is used in cables, wires and pipes. Its metaphysical uses are in conjunction with healing crystals, to make wands and other powerful healing tools because of its capacity to amplify and direct energy. Traditionally, it has been used to treat arthritis and bursitis.

For everyday wearers, we recommend crystals that fall in the Quartz family or have a Moh's hardness level of over 5.5-6.
Avoid excessive water exposure, especially in pools or the ocean and any harsh chemicals.
Delicate crystals like Amber, Moonstone, Opal, and iron-based meteorites need gentle handling due to potential discolouration or structural risks. These are best as occasion pieces.
Store safely, and clean with care.
