Gibeon Meteorite Healing Properties

The Gibeon meteorite is renowned for its striking Widmanstätten patterns, which form when the meteorite cools slowly over millions of years. Composed mostly of iron and nickel, this famous meteorite fell in prehistoric times in what is now Namibia. The Gibeon meteorite is believed to energise and ground, enhancing energy levels and promoting a sense of stability. It is thought to assist in spiritual exploration, meditation, and connecting with cosmic energies, facilitating personal growth, transformation, and positive change in one’s life. Additionally, it is considered to provide protection against negative energies and psychic attacks, and help balance and harmonise the body, mind, and spirit.

History and Uses

The Gibeon meteorite has a fascinating history and has been used in various ways throughout the centuries. Discovered in the early 1800's in the Namib Desert, Namibia, it is believed to have fallen to Earth approximately 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. Named after the town of Gibeon, located near where it was found, the meteorite holds cultural and historical significance, especially to the Nama people of Namibia. They have used pieces of the meteorite in their tools, weapons, and ceremonies for generations, regarding it as a sacred gift from the gods.

Geological Description

Gibeon meteorites are composed of an iron-nickel alloy with approximately 90% iron, 8% nickel, 0.4% cobalt, and 0.04% phosphorus. Entering our atmosphere at around 27 km (17 miles) per second an estimated 30,000 years ago, the Gibeon meteorite exploded high in the atmosphere, showering fragments over a large region of Namibia, Africa. Prior to this, the meteorite had travelled through space for over four billion years, derived from the core of an extinct planet blown apart billions of years ago during the formation of our solar system. The beautiful crystalline patterns within Gibeon meteorites, known as Widmanstätten patterns, can only form over millions of years of cooling. It has been estimated that it took about 1,000 years for these molten pieces of the planetary core to cool by just 1 degree Celsius.

Jewellery Warranty & Care

When crafted into jewellery, some crystals are more hardy than others.

For everyday wearers, we recommend crystals that fall in the Quartz family or have a Moh's hardness level of over 5.5-6.

Avoid excessive water exposure, especially in pools or the ocean and any harsh chemicals.

Delicate crystals like Amber, Moonstone, Opal, and iron-based meteorites need gentle handling due to potential discolouration or structural risks. These are best as occasion pieces.

Store safely, and clean with care.

Rest assured that our 1-year jewellery warranty covers any manufacturing defects.

With proper care, we expect your pieces to last many years to come.

In our 18 years of business, we still wear some treasures from our original collection! Learn more about our warranty and care guide here.
