Smoky Quartz is thought to be one of the most powerful grounding and clearing stones available. It is believed to cleanse and clear the aura and energetic systems, grounding it for reprocessing by the Earth. This crystal may be used to counter the negative effects of radiation and electromagnetic fields. It is also believed to help one to be more organised. Smoky Quartz ranges in colour from pale tan to chocolate brown to grey and black. The dark black opaque variety is also referred to as Morion and Scottish Smoky Quartz is called Cairngorm. It was cut into flat plates in 12th Century China and fabricated in such a way for them to be used as sunglasses.
This crystal is a member of the quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. Its colour varies from pale tan to deep chocolate, and is caused by natural irradiation. It is commonly found in Brazil, Australia, Madagascar, Switzerland and the USA.
You can wear Smoky Quartz every day, however, everyone is different. Try to wear this crystal by itself, not combining the energy with other crystals and see how it feels over an extended period of time. If you find that the energy is a bit too intense, either try cleansing your crystal and starting again or take breaks from wearing it.
