Cuprite Crystal Healing Properties

Cuprite may activate, strengthen, and heal the base chakra, awakening kundalini and raising energy and vitality. It is thought to encourage connection with and balancing of the energy of the feminine archetype. Cuprite is believed to be a stone of women's mysteries and is a good ally when facing a major threshold or rite of passage. It is thought to be an excellent stone to assist with female reproductive issues and provides regulating and balancing qualities.

History and Uses

The name Cuprite is derived from the Latin word cuprum, meaning copper because of its high copper content. This crystal was first described in 1845 but Cuprite crystals have been found on ancient Roman and Celtic copper and bronze objects. Gem quality of this mineral is very rare and is called Ruby Copper because of its beautiful deep red colour. It ranges in colour from carmine red, red-brown, grey-black to a very deep red and has a reflective surface and metallic lustre. It can be found in combination with other copper bearing minerals such as Malachite and Azurite. A beautiful stone combining Cuprite and Chrysocolla comes from the Sonora Valley in Northern Mexico and is referred to as Sonoran Sunset or Sonora Sunrise stone.

Geological Description

Cuprite is a copper oxide mineral with a hardness of 3.5 to 4. It forms in oxidised parts of copper deposits and often occurs in association with chrysocolla, malachite and azurite. Fine specimens are found in the Congo and Namibia in Africa, and Arizona in the USA.

Jewellery Warranty & Care

When crafted into jewellery, some crystals are more hardy than others.

For everyday wearers, we recommend crystals that fall in the Quartz family or have a Moh's hardness level of over 5.5-6.

Avoid excessive water exposure, especially in pools or the ocean and any harsh chemicals.

Delicate crystals like Amber, Moonstone, Opal, and iron-based meteorites need gentle handling due to potential discolouration or structural risks. These are best as occasion pieces.

Store safely, and clean with care.

Rest assured that our 1-year jewellery warranty covers any manufacturing defects.

With proper care, we expect your pieces to last many years to come.

In our 18 years of business, we still wear some treasures from our original collection! Learn more about our warranty and care guide here.
