History and Uses

Tangerine Quartz gets its name from its colour which can range from shades of red to orange. Most of it is found in the Santinho mine in Minas Gerais, Brazil where it is formed in conjunction with water and Hematite. Hematite, which is an iron stone, rusts in water. This rust bonds to the surface of the Clear Quartz crystal giving it its distinctive orange colour. It is thought to be a very helpful stone to carry with you when entering situations of high drama and chaos. As such, it can bring a happier state of mind and raise your energy above stressful situations.

Geological Description

Tangerine Quartz is a member of the quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. Its colour comes from inclusions or encrustations of iron oxide. Exceptional examples of this stone are found in Brazil and Madagascar.
