History and Uses

This beautiful crystal is named for its resemblance to the flashing golden eye of a Tiger. Its colours range from yellow to golden to brown arranged in fibrous bands and it can also be found in red and blue varieties, all displaying a beautiful silky chatoyancy.

Tiger’s eye has been valued for centuries and has a rich history. It was highly regarded in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, where it was believed to have protective and healing properties.

The stone was also used in ancient Rome, where it was carried as a talisman for protection and to ward off evil influences.

Geological Description

Tiger Eye is a stone member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. It is formed from Hawks Eye through pseudomorphism of Crocidolite in Quartz. This crystal is found in South Africa, India, Burma, Western Australia and the USA.
