Similarly, it is believed to provide a wholesome, truthful reality check to bring us back to our centre.
History and Uses
This stone is sometimes called Tree Agate, although Tree Agate is more commonly green, there is some overlap. This variety of Agate derives its name from the Greek word meaning “tree like”. Thus, it describes the patterns created by the dark inclusions of iron or manganese called dendrites. In the past, it was connected with the Ancient Greek Dryads, the spirits of the forest. As such, it was buried in fields when crops were sown to ensure a good harvest. Traditionally, it had been used to support new mothers and encourage lactation.
Geological Description
Agate is a form of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the quartz group. It has a trigonal crystal structure and a hardness of 7. In contrast, Dendritic Agate is not banded, so is not strictly an Agate in scientific terms.
In general, Dendritic Agate comes from Brazil, India and the USA. However, as most Agate, it can be quite widely found across the world.
