Often associated with the muses, Ametrine is thought to facilitate the connection with inspired ideas and their manifestation. Moreover, it has a reputation for nurturing a profound understanding of one’s inner strength and untapped potential. Additionally, this gemstone is believed to boost learning capacity and improve memory retention. In a similar vein, it is said to offer support for digestive problems and the stimulation of metabolic processes.

History and Uses

Ametrine is a mixture of Amethyst and Citrine and is also known as Trystine or Bolivianite. The different colours are produced by the iron in the stone. This oxidises at different rates due to exposure to different temperatures as the crystal is formed. It was first seen in 17th Century Spain when it was presented to the Queen as a gift from the New World.

Legend of the Bolivian Ametrine states that a mine was given to a Spanish conquistador. It was given to Felipe de Urriola y Goitia as a dowry gift from Anahi an Ayoreo Princess. When it came time for him to return to Spain Anahi planned to go with him, against the wishes of her people, who attempted to kill Don Felipe to prevent him from taking her. However, Anahi was accidentally killed as she was warning him of his fate and as she lay dying she gave him an Ametrine crystal. The two colours in the stone, purple and orange, represent how she was torn between her love for her tribe and her love for her husband.

Geological Description

Jewellery Care & 1 Year Warranty

In jewellery form, some crystals are more hardy than others. For everyday wearers, we recommend crystals that fall in the Quartz family or have a Moh's hardness level of over 5.5-6. Avoid excessive water exposure, especially in pools or the ocean and any harsh chemicals. Delicate crystals like Amber, Moonstone, Opal, and iron-based meteorites need gentle handling due to potential discolouration or structural risks. Store safely, and clean with care. Rest assured that our 1-year jewellery warranty covers any manufacturing defects. With proper care, we expect your pieces to last many years to come. In our 18 years of business, we still wear some treasures from our original collection! Learn more about our warranty and care guide here.
