Tiger Eye is named for its resemblance to the flashing golden eye of a tiger, Blue Tiger Eye is also called Hawks Eye. Its colours range from yellow to golden to brown arranged in fibrous bands and it can also be found in red and blue varieties, all displaying a beautiful silky chatoyancy. Historically it was used by Roman soldiers on the battlefield for courage, as a protection stone and also as an aid in business.

Tiger Eye is a stone member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. It is formed from Hawks Eye through pseudomorphism of Crocidolite, blue asbestos, in Quartz. Tiger Eye is found in South Africa, India, Burma, Western Australia and the USA.
